What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small files created by websites you visit. By saving your browsing information online, they make your experience much easier. Thanks to cookies, websites can remember your website preferences, keep you signed in, and give you relevant content locally.
There are two types of cookies:
First-party cookies are created by the website you enter. The website is shown in the address bar.
Third-party cookies are created by other websites. These websites own some of the content such as advertisements or images that you see on the webpage you surf.
To Clear All Cookies in Chrome
Important: If you clear cookies, you’re signed out of websites and your saved preferences will be reset.
On your personal computer, open up Chrome
On the upper right, click on More and on Settings.
Afterwards, Click on Privacy and security and then click on Cookies and other site data.
Click on See all site data and permissions and then click on Clear all data.
To confirm, click Clear.
To Change Your Cookie Settings in Chrome
Important: If you don’t allow sites to save cookies, most of the websites that require you to sign in will not work.
You can allow or you can block cookies which are saved by websites.
If You Want to Allow or Block Cookies
You can permit cookies or you can block all of them and also you can permit cookies of a website you would like to choose but block third-party cookies in advertisements on that web page as well.
On your computer, open Chrome.
Afterwards, click on More and then click on Settings on the upper right.
Click on Cookies and other site data. (It is under “Privacy and security”).
You’ll see four options. You can allow all cookies, block all cookies, block third-party cookies in Incognito, block third-party cookies. Select what you wish.
If you block third-party cookies, all the cookies and website data from other websites are blocked, even if the website is permitted on your exceptions list.
To Allow or Block Cookies for a Specific Site in Chrome
If you permit cookies by default, you can still block them for a certain site.
Open up Chrome on your computer.
At the upper right, click on More and on Settings.
Click on Privacy and security and on Cookies and other site data.
Afterwards, next to “Sites that can always use cookies”, “Always clear cookies when windows are closed” or “Sites that never use cookies” click on Add.
And enter the website address.
- To form an exception for a whole domain, insert [*.] prior to the domain name. For instance, [*.]google.com will match drive.google.com and calendar.google.com.
- You can also put an IP address or a web address that doesn’t start with http://.
And finally, select Add.
To clear an exception that you don’t want, click More, and then click on Remove on the right of the website.
